Over 25 years helping people keep more of their money
Jimmy found a passion for helping others with their financial goals while attending college in Anchorage, Alaska. Starting his career with Waddell & Reed in 2000, he quickly became the manager for the Wasilla office and then moved to Denver, Colorado with the company to manage the office in Cherry Creek.
In 2006, Jimmy decided to go out on his own with a group of advisors and become an independent advisor with ING Financial Partners. This allowed the freedom to provide products that were in the best interest of his clients and also start a fee-based practice.
In 2015, Jimmy founded Baobab Wealth Management, an independent fee-only financial advisory practice. At Baobab Wealth, Jimmy specializes in retirement income planning for Americans, expats, cross-border families, and foreign nationals. A financial plan is at the heart of every client relationship.
Jimmy advises through Baobab Wealth LLC, a Florida state-registered investment advisor, and holds life and health insurance licenses*. He also holds the CRPC (Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor) and CMFC (Chartered Mutual Fund Counselor) designations from the College for Financial Planning.

Raised across five continents
Born in Livingstone, Zambia, Jimmy was introduced to a global, adventure-traveling lifestyle early in life. Both of his parents (Jim & Sue) loved world travel, and Jimmy’s father specialized in setting up sewing factories around the world to manufacture clothing.
After Africa, the Miller family moved to the Philippines, where it grew by two (Laurie & Matt). From there to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and then Hong Kong.
Jimmy went to high school in Michigan and, following his father’s passion for the outdoors, developed a deep love of it too. He had always dreamed of living and working in Alaska, so after high school he moved to Anchorage for his undergraduate degree in Business Management.
Jimmy is happily married to Sonja, whom he met while climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in 2015. Their son Hendrik was born in September 2017 in Hawaii and, like his parents, is already an avid traveler, having visited four continents before the age of one.
Fisherman, climber, diver, world traveler
When he isn’t working on a financial plan, you’ll usually find Jimmy with his family or his clients enjoying the great outdoors. He’s an avid fisherman, hunter, scuba diver, mountain climber, sailor, and world traveler.
