Sometimes the things you enjoy and the things you have a knack for merge together and you find yourself with the opportunity to make a career out of your passions and skills. That’s my story of how I became a financial advisor.
When I was young, my mom and I would often have conversations about finances and how important it was for me to invest in my future. From that point on, my interest in the financial world was piqued. As I got older, I noticed that people in my life would come to me with questions about investing and other financial matters. It dawned on me that I had something of value to offer others, and I began taking the steps necessary to become a financial advisor.
Starting Out
While in college in Anchorage, Alaska, I was working at a bank while also waiting tables in the evenings. On one rare day off, I found myself wandering through the mall, and I came across a recruiting booth for a financial firm called Waddell & Reed. After inquiring about a job, they hired me and helped me obtain the proper licenses. I instantly fell in love with my role as a financial advisor and the privilege of helping people work toward their financial goals.
Not long after starting at Waddell & Reed, I became the manager for the Wasilla office, and I later moved to Denver, Colorado, to manage an office there. After 6 years with this firm, I decided to venture out on my own with a group of advisors and become an independent, fee-based advisor so I could have the freedom to offer products and services that are in the best interests of my clients. Finally, in 2015, I founded my firm, Baobab Wealth Management.
My Career Today
My goal is to help my clients with the unique challenges they face and take the mystery out of preparing for today and for the future. I believe that there is no one single strategy to fit everyone, which is why every client gets my undivided attention and tailored solutions through the whole process, from planning to implementation to follow-up. I specialize in investment management, retirement planning, and income solutions, and I enjoy building long-lasting relationships with my clients.
Challenges And Joys
While I love my role as a financial advisor, there are definitely challenges that come with the job. It can be difficult to find new clients that share our mission and want to commit to the trusted, long-term relationship we offer. But my love for this career outweighs any obstacles that may come my way. There’s nothing more fulfilling and inspiring than seeing a client’s planning and hard work pay off so they can retire successfully.
I work hard every day because of the strong duty I feel toward my clients and their plans. People put their trust in me and rely on me to guide them to their ideal future. I do not take this responsibility lightly, and I strive to continually grow and improve my business to help my clients in an even greater way.
