Is Your Financial Planner Stuck in the Past While You’re Going Global?

Love it or hate it, technology is advancing and is here to stay. The pandemic certainly changed a lot about our world and one of the most profound changes was the quick adoption of video meetings utilizing tools like Zoom. Another change was the ability for so many people to work remotely. This has given many the freedom to work and live anywhere they would like. And for many reasons, some people have already moved or are considering living and working overseas. With many countries now offering easy-to-obtain digital nomad work visas and the ability of the U.S. dollar to stretch farther overseas, professionals and their families are choosing the expat lifestyle in record numbers. For Americans though, this lifestyle change comes with a myriad of financial planning issues that require a very specialized financial planner. It used to be that most people would only seek out a financial planner or a professional of any sort who lived and worked within their community. This made perfect sense before Zoom, and it was normal to drive to their office and meet face-to-face from time to time.

Now, all that has changed as people become more globally minded, and many need a specialized advisor to help. Nowadays, if you require a specialized planner, like one who specializes in Americans working, retiring, or venturing overseas, the planner that might be just right for you probably isn’t in your hometown, and might live anywhere in the U.S. or the world for that matter. Maybe it’s time to cast a wider net and search beyond your city to find the right financial planner for you. If you need a planner who cares, specializes in American expats, and has spent more than half of their life as an expat themselves, from Australia to Zambia, then give me a call or shoot me an email.
